TAPMI announces first of its kind e-governance programme in India


July 7, 2010: T. A. Pai Management Institute [TAPMI] a leading B school in India has announced a unique one year Post Graduate e-Governance Programme for Executives [eGPX] for Middle and Senior level Executives from Government, Public and Private sectors. TAPMI is the only B-School to start the one of its kind course in India.

The programme is being offered by TAPMI in collaboration with National Institute for Smart Government [NISG], Hyderabad with support from the Department of Information Technology Ministry of Communications & IT, and Government of India. TAPMI is the first management institute in the country to be selected to conduct a post graduate e-governance programme for executives in collaboration with NISG.

“The eGPX Programme has been designed to produce e-Governance professionals who will fill the capacity gap in the e-Governance space, both in the government and private sectors. Keeping with its tradition of academic excellence, TAPMI aims to support the government in its ambitious National e-Governance Plan by enlarging the pool of professionals in the e-governance domain by helping them acquire adequate skills to analyze, design and implement an e-Government application.” said Dr. Saji Gopinath, Director of TAPMI.

The National e-Governance Plan has been initiated by the Government of India to transform Government departments and agencies from department-centric mode of working to a citizen-centric way of working has been one of the prime reasons for floating such a course.

“eGPX intends to bring together Government officers who would have a clear idea of the processes that need ICT-enabled change and professionals from the private sector including IT, who would help implement this change. Learning about the possibilities of using ICT for citizen-centric, transparent governance and working together to make it happen is the aim of the program,” said Dr. Jaba M Gupta, Chairperson eGPX. The admissions for the 2010-11 batch of eGPX will close on July 15, 2010.

eGPX will enable participants to understand an e-Government system from the point of view of the various stakeholders including the citizens, businesses and Government. State-of-the-art classroom technology and pedagogy is used by TAPMI to simulate real-life situations and prepare the participants to understand the enormity of challenges involved in e-Governance transformation projects. The course is divided into three Terms, and each term effectively building up in-depth knowledge and practical skills. In order to give ample exposure to e-Governance projects, the course also includes a study tour and an 18-month internship period.

TAPMI eGPX has been shortlisted from over 500 nominations for the eINDIA 2010 “Skill Development Initiative of the Year” award given to innovative endeavours by eIndia 2010, the country’s largest ICT event taking place in Hyderabad from August 4, 2010 to August 6, 2010. The Awards have been instituted with the primary aim of felicitating and acknowledging unique and innovative initiatives in the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for Development.
