Student’s felicitated for preventing forest-fire

Pune, October 10th, 2011: As many as 200 students were felicitated by DSK Foundation & Green Hill Group for their exemplary work towards preventing forest fire and environment restoration.

Present on the occasion were Senior Literary & Author Prof. P. K Ghanekar, DSK Foundation’s Shyam Burke, Head of Green Hill Group Ravi Purandare, Chandrakant Chopde, Sanjay Athawale.

Forest fire is a condition were the coercion between dry grass and wind results in fire which not only destroys the dry grass land

but also some lush green trees leading to environmental distress. Especially, the hillocks are more prone to such fires. The factors which help causing these fires were negated by these students.

Prof. Ghanekar awarded students with certificates and teachers were given trophies for guiding students on this important issue. The event was organized at Hanuman tekadi. More than 700 students participated in this joint drive by Vidhyavardini School, Dr. Shyamrao Kalmadi School (Kannad Medium) and Symbiosis College of Arts & Commerce.

“With the help of these students many saplings were planted throughout the hillock like Babul, Acacia, Sandal wood, Karvand, Anjan, Berries, Custard apple plants etc. With ‘contribution of labour’ from all quarters we plan to make our hillocks green”, expressed Bhurke.
